let the beauty of what you love be what you do.
-Rumi
I have always loved mandalas.
There is something about looking at these beautiful patterns that calms, centers and inspires. There is something about their impermanence that reminds us to enjoy life without attachment.
One autumn day, when my oldest daughter was four and her younger sister was napping, the two of us began collecting leaves and flowers from our yard . Together, we marveled at the beauty that each of these leaves, flowers, and seeds embodied… the harmony and perfection of creation.
In a moment of inspiration, I began creating a mandala, using their physical parts and pieces to amplify the unique patterns they held. The samaras of the maple suggesting a way they wanted to be woven together… the petals of the mum tiny exclamation points. To my delight, C joined in, and together we fell into a lovely, timeless space of creation.
Over the years we have continued to spend time together in the meditative and creative collaboration of mandala art.
I have also facilitated ceremonial mandala creation with people/groups, please reach out if you have an interest and we can discuss what that might look like!
